Hi
I am in trouble. I was Driving thru Milwaukee on 15 April at night 11.30 and crossed the Speed limit to 68mph in 55mph zone. An officer ticketed me heavy fine-200+$(Adopting State Statute 346.57(5)). I am an Indian Citizen on Buisness visa here for 2 months. It was late night and I thought that the road has limit of 65. I respect the US Traffic rules and It was first time I did this mistake. I showed my Indian Driving License, Internatinal Driving Lincense and passport also. But I was cited for an unaffordable amount. Now my appearing date is 10th May (Appearance not required) But I have to leave US on 6th May because my company has booked the tickets already. Worst of all, I will be travelling out of city every week and will be in the city only on weekends or 2nd to 6th May.
Can anybody PLEASE PLEASE HELP me finding any way I can get my Fine waived or reduced by contacting an officer before my appearance date.

Thanks
Ajay

I was wondering if I let my passport expire would it look bad during the greencard interview? I won’t be traveling anytime soon. Thanks!

Good day,
I am from Germany. I came to the US in 1998 with a J1 visa that was later changed to a HB1. My visa expired in 2004 and I continued to stay since. I want to move back to Germany because I never felled comfortable with my legal status. I lost my passport and my consulate will not issue me travel papers unless I can prove that I am not a U.S. citizen. I went to U.S. homeland security and US immigration office where I was told that they cannot help me, they don’t wright such letters. I have a social security number, no criminal record and I do not want to cost this country any money (hence deportation). I was 6 month unemployed and never filed for unemployment (again to me it would not be right to have other tax-payers to pay for me). I always payed my taxes with no deductions.
All I am looking for is 1 line stating that I am not an American citizen and I could leave the country.
I cannot get anything from U.S. authorities and my consulate will not help unless I do. I am very desperate to get home.
Now I am an Illegal with a clean record that wants to leave the country but doesn’t get help from his own consulate or U.S. authorities.
Thank you for your consideration.

I have a warrant issued in Pa. I plan on turning myself in late Jan. I have a business trip planned out of the US. I need to close this deal or I will have no money to hire a lawyer and fight the erroneous charge that caused the warrant. It is a summary of misdemeanor traffic violation, but I violated my probation. Is this going to be a wise decision? Does using your passport alert NCIS? Either leaving or coming back?

I would think that for a felony charge or some type of “fugitive” the US could revoke my passport if they wanted to. Not the case here though.

:confused:Hi I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with my question. i have no money for a lawyer and i dont know what is going on with this situation. I had officers come to my home with a warrant and search my home they seized important documents like my passport, my wifes passport, and my mothers also other things like money and other documents. It’s been about a year and a few months since that and i did send a letter requesting my documents. I just recently received a notice to return the money but nothing on my documents. I called the number on the letter and they told me that my documents were being held by ICE and they will have them contact me. Just yesterday I received a call for an appointment to come in. Could this be they want to return my documents or what could possibly be going on?

Hello, and thank you in advance for reading and considering answering my question. I will try to explain it as best as possible.

I derived citizenship through my father as a minor when he was naturalized. My name was spelled differently, so when I went to apply for a passport I changed the spelling of he name so it will be easier to pronounce. After I received my passport, I was able to change my social security card to my newly spelled name, as well as my drivers license, open bank accounts pretty much everything in this new name.
Now my problem is that I applied for a certificate of citizenship and they want proof of my ‘legal’ name change. My passport was not enough proof since the passport does not change the name ‘legally’, (which is funny because it allowed me to change literally everything)
I looked into changing my name through the local court system, but am NOT able to since all of my identification indicates that I have already changed my name. So my question is how do I get the state / government to recognize my current name as my legal name and that I receive proof of it on paper as one would a court order to change a name? Please help, I am stuck.

I will do my best to explain this.
The children and I live in Missouri, their dad / my husband lives in Nebraska. Even though we are officially divorced, I still see us as married till death parts us – of course this information does not matter, but it will explain why I am calling him my ‘husband’ instead of my ‘ex’. The court order for child custody was all done in Nebraska – Douglas County (Omaha) – where we were both living at the time. It reads as follows:

“Petitioner [me] is a fit and proper person, and is awarded custody of the minor children, to-wit:
daughter’s full name and birthdate
son’s full name and birthdate
subject to reasonable rights of visitiation by Respondent [my husband], consisting of, but not limited to, alternating weekends and alternating holidays. No alcohol is to be consumed during the visits or immediately (24-hour period) prior to the visits. If Respondent appears under the influence of alcohol, Petitioner may terminate the visit.”

The problem is that I cannot get ahold of him to have him sign the passport forms. He has pretty much been out of our lives ever since I was pregnant with our last child over 13 years ago. We have not had much contact with him, but I do know where he lives and his basic contact information.

I tried to file the forms without his signature by filing a DS Form 3053 indicating why he is not able to sign (he chooses to stay away) and what I have done to contact him to try and have him sign (called, emailed, texted and also talked to his family). I filed all the paperwork 2 weeks ago and just got a letter from the US Department of State saying I must also “submit a current certified copy of the custody order.”
Current US Passport law requires the custody wording to SPECIFICALLY SAY that I have “legal and sole custody” which, based on what I’ve typed above, is not what my custody order says. I called the passport info line and read what my order says to the woman who answered and she said that would not work.

I have two options:
1) Keep trying to get ahold of him to sign the forms
2) Submit a “Motion to Modify Child Custody”

Obvious problems arise with the first choice.
The second choice however seems even more intimidating to me but is probably the route I’ll have to take. Has anyone ever done this? How do I do it? It seems I can just draft one up myself, but do I even have the right reasons to modify the order? And what complications might we have since we are now living in Missouri and he is still in the original state (Nebraska)? Do I file with the Douglas County Nebraska court or here in Missouri?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

My husband and I have been married for the past 2 years, and we are finally ready to do his paperwork for a green card now that I have graduated college.

He came here from Hungary when he was 12 with his family. His visa expired in 2000 and his passport expired in 2009. He went to US schools and graduated HS and attended college until his passport expired. He came here legally and underage.

I know we need to I-130 and the I-485. When do we send the work permit papers as well?

I have been looking into getting a lawyer, but we don’t want to get “taken” by anyone.

Anyone have any help/hints?

THANKS!

My question pertains to the rights given to a couple who has registered for a Certificate of Domestic Partnership in California, as they pertain to CA AB 102. To my understanding, AB 102 allows for one or both partners to legally change their names (within the limitations stated). When we register, I would like to hyphenate my last name to include both of our current last names.

However, once we receive the certificate of registration from the State that shows my new and “old” names, will I be able to change my name on other legal documents? My biggest concern is changing my name with the SSA. I have read that the DMV now references the SSA for name changes, and I will also need a new SSA card for things like my W-4 changes at work, my passport, etc. The SSA didn’t have an answer for me when I emailed their help line.

Will changing my name on the CA Domestic Partnership registration form still leave me having to go through the court system to “legally change my name”? I thought CA AB 102 was supposed to prevent that.

Any information is appreciated. Thank you.

I am a LPR and have applied for immigrant visa for my wife and my daughter is a derivative benefiary. The NVC has completed the case on 19th May,2010 and sent the same to New Delhi consulate for interview on 6th August, 2010. Everything seemed to going fine when i suddenly realized that i have misspelled the name of my wife’s father in both I 130 and DS 230 form submitted to NVC. Instead of Sujit i misspelled it as Sumit. The mistake was not noticed by me or NVC and now they have sent the case to New Delhi embassy. I have all the documentary proof like my Wife’s birth certificate. biographic pages of her passport and marriage certificates to show the correct name of my wife’s father. I am now worried how can i get this corrected or what do do. Hope it is not a fatal mistake and will delay my case. Can anyone advise me on it.

Also, I am currently in USA. I have not yet decided to personally attend my wife’s interview at New Delhi Consulate. Is it important that I should be present or it will have no bearing on the interview result. Please advise.
