I have a gas fire place do I have to open the flut when in use if so all the heat goes up the chimney?

Faulty Roof Installation
Recently I had to replace/ repair a leaking roof that was leaking at the chimney within the same year our home was built. The builder blamed the chimney installer who blamed the stucco who blamed…. I paid for it all.
