my friend stole a couple items from the store he works at totalling about $600. He was confronted by the owner and the owner asked to search his house for stolen items, on the way to the house he was told that if he confessed owner wouldn't call the cops

Please help Larceny charges in NC (MD resident)
What kind of penalty am I facing.. the Larceny was a 40$ pair of earrings. The store said they wouldnt press charges, but I didnt have ID on me so they said they had to call the cops, then the store rep told them that they didnt wanna press charges, but the cops arrested me because they said I'd never learn if I didnt get a record.

Parent kidnapping?
Every time that my wife and I get into a fight, and I tell my wife that I'm going to take our daughter and leave, because I don't like the way she yells at our daughter or how she treats our daughter, she say that she's going to call the cops and charge me for kidnapping. Also, if I want to take my daughter to my parents, who live in a different state, she would call the cops for kidnapping also. I was just wondering if she could get me for kidnapping or not
