I was arrested in Chamblee, GA for driving on a suspended license. My license had been suspended the day before and I had no knowledge of it. ( The Georgia DDS sent letter of notification less than 24 hours before my arrest so there was no way I could have known) I received a speeding ticket 6 months before and payed the $250 fine but never received notification in the mail from the state that it was something called “super speeders” and required an addition $200. So they suspended my license after I did not pay that fine. It turns out GA DDS was mailing to an old address and the mail was not forwarded to me. I was arrested in Chamblee, posted bail and payed the fine for super speeders the next day and my license was immediately re-instated. I have to go to court in Chamblee for driving with a suspended license. This is a first offense of any kind for me , what should I expect in court? Some websites say mandatory 2 days in jail and fine of at least $500.
Any suggestions? And do I really need a lawyer?

my question stems from a second degree harassment charge and 24 hr. arrest plus a bond hearing 1500.00 the court never ordered restraint order even after the arrest from my place of employment. At the first hearing in December 2010. i proceeded to request a jury trial and got a attorney. Now its April 2011. into April. Can i counter sue her for defamation of character and slander not too mention my police record. even not guilty until proven innocent.

Hi , i was recommanded to work for a man for housekeeping and he paid pretty well. I only worked for him a few times. He knows that i was having finanical problems with school and other finanaical reasons so he wrote me out a check and it bounced. A few days ago I received a letter from a detective saying that he is investigating and if I dont respond to the letter a warrent will be placed for my arrest. I feel like the victim what can i do about this situation?

I have 7 warrants for my arrest from 2005 to 2006. I got stoped by a police officer in 2010 and got 8 more tickets, now i have court for those tickets on 2/18/2011. I’m not working i have 4 small children. What do i do? Should i turn my self in.

i have this 3 year old wage claim that has no ending..just a dead end. i was working for this employer that try to pass me off as an independent contractor, but later found out the truth. that i was an employee of her company…So i filed a claimed threw the department of workforce development. the help to try and recover unpaid wages but gave up after a response and later she stop responding…then they transfer my complaint to a district attorney and issued an arrest warrant for her arrest…and for 3yrs thats where it lies…so if there is anyone out there that can give sum advise..from the people or prefer an attorney..Thank you!

I have a female friend of mine who is a US citizen (from Detroit, MI). She visited Toronto, Ontario and got mixed
up with the wrong people. She was recently arrested for operating a bawdy-house. Either she has made bail for her criminal charges or they were dropped completely. She is still being held by Canada’s immigration. This is the first time she has ever been to jail (she never even had a ticket in her life). Prior to her arrest, she had only been in Canada for roughly 45 days. I am trying to help her get released (either over there or deported back home), and I fear I am her only hope (I am her only true friend). I am not legal savvy at all and I am also a US citizen. My question is how would we go about getting her released or either deported….and which one would be faster. Thank you in advance for your help.

I got pulled over in Louisiana in 2006 and got charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. I was set up for court in 2007 and never appeared i live in Texas there is a bench warrant out for my arrest. My question is: Will Louisiana extradite me if i turn myself in in Texas?

I rent a room in a house near a concert center. For years the owner of the house allows concert goers to park on his lawn for a price and has never had a problem. This year the police decided they didn’t want this to go on so they came to the house and arrested us, handcuffed the owner and me (I was helping direct cars where to park) even though we gave no resistance, took us downtown and charged us with a city ordinance violation of blocking the road. The whole thing was in the newspaper.

Upon returning to work my supervisor informed me that he read the incident in the paper and wanted to know why I had not told him of the arrest. He then went on to say the police had called him several days earlier looking for me and told him they wanted to know where I was so they could arrest me on the job. My boss told me they said that they had an arrest warrant on me for a FELONY. He said he refused to tell them where I was but he also did not mention to me anything about it at the time. He told me that since I did not inform him I was arrested he was laying me off until there was a resolution to my case even though I explained to him the “arrest” was only for a city ordinance violation and had nothing to do with a serious charge, not even a misdemeanor.

My lawyer told us the police had no right to arrest us, that we are guilty of nothing and we go to trial in two months from the alleged infraction. He tried to explain to the DA my situation with work so maybe we could resolve my part and I could return to work instead of being out of work for two months but my lawyer said they wouldn’t listen to him.

I believe someone in the police department or higher up has a thing about us parking cars and is harassing us because legally there is nothing they can do.

Was it legal for the police to call my employer in another city who has nothing to do with the “alleged” violation, to lie to him that I was wanted for a felony and try to get information about my whereabouts so they could arrest me on the job when their arrest warrant (which I don’t thing was even issued at the time he called my boss, if there ever was one at all) was only for an ordinance violation? My lawyer (my landlord’s lawyer) has not returned my calls for two weeks so I have not been able to discuss this with him.

Also can my employer lay me off with the reason given that I did not report to him that I was arrested for violation of a city ordinance even though the arrest according to my lawyer will not stand up in court? I feel like I was convicted and punished before ever going to court because of my employer’s action instigated by the police phone call to my employer.

After being laid off for four weeks I managed to convince my supervisor that I could not wait another 4 weeks or more to come back to work and after being verbally insulted and belittled by him and the district manager almost bringing me to tears, they allowed me to come back to work.

My PD decided to tranfer a midemeanor case from county to circuit court with my felony. I am out on bond, when he did this, it seems I now have a CAPIAS on me for my arrest. Why? It is a charge I have already been to arrangement for. I did just pass up a plea deal a few days ago, it this a way for them to try and force a poor man to take the deal?

My big question is, does this violate my bond and will I be now held without a bond at all? Trial could be months away and in jail, how can I fight for myself and make my defense?

I cannot believe this system does this to a person that is poor,I am, that wantto stand up for his innocence and fight for it.

My ex wife is badly addicted pain killer. She worked at a doctors office and would only give me my daughter in exchange for filling a script. I did and gave her her drugs and took my daughter unfortunately i had to return and was put in the position again this time i made her put one in my fiance name and left with my daughter and kept the scripts as proof she was blackmailing me she was arrested the other day and now i was informed a warrant for my arrest will be issued. What will happen to me? I have proof and a witness to this.
