What Caused This Extreme Light Headed Feeling On Ferry?
I went over the North sea on a ferry and it was an awful experience. Captain said it was a force 9 gale and the boat was rocking everywhere. I became extremely light headed and dizzy. I didn’t have sickness or nausea, just this awful head problem.
What was it? I am going on a cruise to Canaries in October and am worried it will happen again and ruin the trip.

Light headedness is part of seasickness, in your case it wasn’t bad enough for you to throw up. In fact, you’ve probably got a pretty strong stomach if you didn’t. Force 9 is a severe gale, which in the North Sea is not pleasant to put it mildly.
I doubt if you’ll ever experience anything so bad again. Ferries are never pleasant to ride in any sort of rough weather, it’s to do with the virtually flat bottom, high sides and the need to keep to schedule.
Cruise ships are bigger and built for passenger comfort, not flat out economics. I suspect you’ll be absolutely fine, probably better than most of your fellow passengers.

Your inner ear has to make constant adjustments concerning balance. In the case of the heaving deck of a ship, this makes for difficult work for your inner ear which is trying it’s best to respond to the shifting centre of gravity in your body due to the rolling deck beneath your feet.
I’m glad you were not sea-sick – the most terrible thing.
Thankfully I’m never seasick.
Lord Nelson was always seasick and had a special cot which he brought onto HMS Victory – he could lie down in it and escape the motion of the ship for a few hours rest – poor darling.
So, if you feel a bit queezy at sea, then you’re in good company.
Your inner ear was thrown out of whack and that caused the problem.
No worries on the cruise, the boats hardly move.
If you are worried try some dramamine (sp?)

it’s an inner ear thing. your doctor can recommend a medication that’ll help but you probably won’t need it for your cruise unless you run into unexpectedly rough seas.
It’s the same thing that causes sea sickness. Your inner ear is sensitive to the motion of the sea.
