Let's say the past you went into was your past but in a different reality (bad choice of word have no other word). So say in this history Hitler was one of the biggest criminals in history or whatever. If the theory is right and you went back in time it could be possible the reality you traveled back into the hitler of that reality could be just another average citizen of germany. See what I mean? Therefore whatever you alter there would be essentially "meant" to happen as it wouldn't be a paradox because you weren't traveling through the history of the world you came from.
